Well, our first response would be that you can do both! Both require some dexterity with your hands, so it’s not overreaching to think that doing one may help out with the other. There are a few differences. For instance, playing a musical instrument is a more spontaneous activity; you can go sit down at a piano and just tickle the ivories with no plan in mind. Visual art, such as painting and drawing obviously take a little more planning. But like we said earlier, there’s no reason not to do both. That said, one thing we can speak to with confidence is playing the piano. Learning the piano can lead to many years of musical fulfillment. But, like anything else, it appeals to some folks more than others. So, we can give you some advice to help you decide if playing the piano is right for you.
